New IMoB loan agreement announced with Humboldt Forum, Berlin

Updated: Jul 17

The Exhibition 'Conservation in Dialogue' (24 May 0002025 -1 June 0002026) at our sister institution, the Humboldt Forum, Berlin, renewed an ongoing search for the globally distributed components of their Mongolian gungervaa (shrine) on display as the “Inside out” exhibit https://www.humboldtforum.org/en/programm/laufzeitangebot/exhibition/conservation-in-dialogue-144623/

The display presents a multi-vocal representation of the components of this important shrine, which unfortunately is incomplete, missing several objects, including four bronzes.

‘To this day their whereabouts are still unknown’……. WELL NO MORE!

We have an important update from our experts at the IMoB....

This Not-fossilised remains of a small votive figure was accessioned into the IMoB paleoetechnology collections in 0002021 CE. For further information about this important object please click on the image.

We can now reveal that our experts have authenticated this votive figure as the remains of one of the four missing bronzes, once contained in the Ethnographic Museum gungervaa in Berlin, now on display at the Humboldt Forum, in the former European Union.

In order to reunite the dispersed elements of this shrine, the Trustees of the IMoB are pleased to announce the long-term loan of this important object to the Humboldt Forum (merely in exchange for some of their Benin Bronzes).
